Structure Collapse in the 510 Box Area
Thursday, April 30th, 2020

On Thursday, April 30, 2020 at approximately 10:46 AM, Company 5 was alerted for a structure collapse with entrapment's on Old Trail Way in the Harper's Ferry Campsites. Chief 5 (Cogle) responded immediately after dispatch and was advised by Jefferson ECC that the caller was reporting that the porches were falling off of her mobile home and that the structure was possibly collapsing.

Chief 5 arrived on the scene and advised Jefferson that he had a mobile home with a rear porch separated from the structure, one porch partially collapsed on the front of the structure, two (2) elderly patients trapped inside the structure and the structure had moved several inches off the foundation and was still moving.

Chief 5 immediately requested several heavy rescue squads and a heavy wrecker to the scene. Rescue 4 (Independent), Rescue 617 (Hamilton-Loudoun County, ,VA.), Squad 25 (South Berkeley) and Squad 1 (Martinsburg Fire Department Structure Collapse Unit) responded along with a 35-ton heavy wrecker from Drive Pros Towing.

Upon arrival of the wrecker from Drive Pros, crews immediately stabilized the structure to prevent any further movement from the foundation.

Once completed, crews entered the structure and removed both occupants and had them evaluated by EMS staff on Ambulance 5-2.

The residents refused medical treatment at the scene and were assisted by personnel from the American Red Cross.

Monday, April 6, 2020, while Company 5 personnel were operating on the scene of a cliff rescue in the Pipertown area of the mountain, Jefferson ECC struck Box 560K for the fully involved structure fire on Gingerbread Lane in Shannondale off of Gate #2.
